It’s 2:00am and I have to get up early in the morning. I want to get up really early, like 5:00am because they say that the most successful people get up every day at 5:00am. I’m not sure who ‘they’ are, but I’ve tried being a morning person and it really doesn’t work for me.
I love staying up until the wee hours of the morning. 2:00am is a great time to be awake. It’s quiet, no one calls, texts, or emails. Facebook is quiet, although sometimes you’ll catch another insomniac posting a status update, asking if anyone else is awake.
My cats are usually curled up next to me…out cold. Sleeping cats bring a sense of calmness…until they start moving their paws, like they’re running from a scary dog or chasing a mouse.
I live in a rural neighborhood where I hear owls hooting and coyotes howling almost nightly. When there’s a full moon, and the light shines in the window, there’s just something about it that makes you feel like you’re the only one invited to the night’s performance. My favorite nights are when it’s raining…It’s a magical time…
It’s also a creative time because your mind is more open to thoughts that would probably never enter your mind in the daytime. It’s almost like being a little drunk…where your mind isn’t inhibited and your imagination is set free to create new stories and new, innovative ideas.
Sometimes I get caught up in a project, writing, reading a book, or doing something totally mindless, like playing a game, and all of a sudden it’s 4am. That’s when you know that the sun will be up before you know it and it would probably be a good idea to try and go to sleep.
I shut down the computer, close the book and turn off the light. I’m so tired, but my mind is racing. I’m thinking about the day ahead and the responsibilities that come along with it. I know I need rest, so I picture myself by the ocean….I hear the waves crashing against the shore, but I still can’t seem to turn my mind off.
But soon I awake…I open my eyes and see my cats, still curled up sleeping. I just came back from the most beautiful adventure. I smile because tonight I’ll get to do it all over again… I can’t wait!
